Great Yarmouth kept their promotion challenge on track with a hard-fought 2-1 victory against battling Godmanchester Rovers in Ridgeons Division One. The revitalised Bloaters, who had suffered a dip in form before hitting eight goals past Swaffham last weekend, went one goal down after dominating play but failing to create clear-cut chances.

But Yarmouth continued to press and eventually they were rewarded on 81 minutes when Craig Roberts bundled in from close range.

Then, in the 87th minute Yarmouth managed to secure all three points when one of Adam Sewell's trademark throw-ins was launched into the box and Roberts again got the telling touch, leading to scenes of jubilation amongst the players and management staff.

After finally getting their noses in front there was still six minutes of injury time to play but thanks to Hilton's late save the Bloaters held on to further consolidate their position in the top three.

It was also a good day for their coastal rivals Gorleston who beat visitors Team Bury 2-0 and, with Diss not playing, climbed one place in the table to fourth. They also gained a club record sixth game on the trot without conceding.

Liam Bartley, who signed from Yarmouth earlier this year, scored both goals for the Greens - one from a near-post header and one rolled in from an acute angle.

A local derby between hosts Swaffham and Thetford ended 2-0 with the visitors taking the spoils with a brace from Matt Dixon.

Thetford took the lead from the penalty spot, Swaffham keeper Craig Titmarsh having no chance to stop the well-positioned kick.

The Pedlars countered good combination work between Kyle Plumb and Nathan Clarke saw opportunities defended well by the Thetford keeper.

Further damage was done in the 36th minute, a looping header following a free-kick 30 yards out.

Leaders Brantham just managed to beat mid-table Saffron Walden 1-0.

Basement side Fakenham Town gained only their eighth point this season from a 1-1 draw at Cornard.

Lee Hyde netted a header for the Ghosts to open the scoring in the first half but the hosts pulled it level from a free-kick.

In other results, Downham hosted Ipswich Wanderers but lost 3-0, lowly Long Melford put up a fight against visitors FC Clacton, who are third, but lost out 2-1 and it was the same scoreline at Stowmarket Town where the hosts lost to March, and Whitton and visitors Halstead shared two goals and the points.
