Plans for a village convenience store to expand by demolishing and rebuilding a neighbouring barn are to be discussed by councillors.
The project would see the OneStop shop on Kenninghall Road in Banham, near Attleborough, grow to fill more space, while a new cafe would also be created on the site.
A statement submitted by the applicant’s agent says that the derelict barn next to OneStop would be replaced “with a modern construction which matches the existing size, shape and scale and for the most part replicates the existing design”.
Most of the space created by the new barn would be filled by OneStop, with the separate cafe unit occupying a small section on the corner.
Officers in Breckland Council have warned that the application should be refused, saying that “the existing building plays a key role in reinforcing a sense of local historic character and distinctiveness in the locality”.
The council’s planning committee will look at the plan at a meeting on Tuesday, November 29.
