Three Norfolk businesses have been crowned some of the UK's best in this year's "rural Oscars"

The Countryside Alliance Awards, now in their 17th year, judge businesses on a range of criteria including passion, commitment and sense of community.

They aim to recognise rural businesses across five categories, including best local food, best butcher, best pub, best rural enterprise, and best village shop/post office.

Two businesses in Norfolk won one of the categories with another receiving a "highly commended award".

Fourth generation Arthur Howell Butchers in Staithe Street in Wells was crowned the UK's best for its high-quality and locally sourced butchery.

Garboldisham Village Store and Post Office also scooped a win for the best local shop. 

The store is run by a couple who swapped working in the diamond industry in Botswana to create a shop at the core of the community.

Coming as a runner-up in the rural enterprise category was LRH livery in north Norfolk, which offers a range of horse care and maintenance.
