From food festivals to a soapbox derby, here are some of the biggest and best events happening in Norfolk in September 2024.
1. Sundown Festival
Where: Norfolk Showground, Dereham Road, New Costessey, NR5 0TT
When: August 30-September 1
Price: Weekend camping ticket - £175.50 (age restrictions apply), student, group, weekend (no camping) and day tickets also available, sundownfestival.co.uk
Sundown Festival is back with more than 80 artists performing across five stages.
The headliners are Tom Grennan on Saturday and D-Block Europe on Sunday.
Other big names performing at the festival include Kenya Grace, Wilkinson and Mahalia.

2. North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival
Where: Walled Garden, Holkham Hall, Wells-next-the-Sea, NR23 1AB
When: August 31-September 1, 10am-4pm
Price: Free entry, parking is £6 a day
Now in its 15th year, the upcoming North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival will feature stallholders from across the county.
The products will include fresh meat and game, vegetables, cakes, beer, bread, tarts, juices, bakes and chocolates.
There will also be street food traders and entertainment, with a cookery theatre and children's activities.
3. Norwich Foodies Festival
Where: Earlham Park, Norwich, NR4 7TQ
When: September 6: 2pm-10pm, September 7 and 8: 11am-9pm
Price: Advance day tickets - adults: £20-£21, concessions: £19, ages 12-16: £8, under 12s: £4, foodiesfestival.com, weekend, family, group and VIP tickets also available
The three-day Foodies Festival is back by popular demand in early September featuring top chefs, tasty food, delicious drinks and live music.
The headline acts on the main stage are Symphonic Ibiza on Friday, Sister Sledge on Saturday and Scouting for Girls on Sunday.
The chef line-up features local talent such as Richard Bainbridge (Benedicts) and Daniel Smith (The Wildebeest, The Ingham Swan).
4. Norfolk Heritage Open Days
Where: Various Norfolk locations
When: September 6-15
Price: Free, pre-booking required for some events at norfolkheritageopendays.co.uk
Heritage Open Days (HODs) is England’s largest free festival of heritage and culture.
This year’s theme is ‘Routes – Networks – Connections’, celebrating how people and ideas have moved and come together throughout history.
There are more than 200 free events taking place in Norfolk.
5. Grand Norwich Duck Race
Where: The Ribs of Beef (Fye Bridge), 24 Wensum Street, Norwich, NR3 1HY
When: September 15, from 12noon
Price: £2 donation for a small duck, reserve a large duck for £150, visit break-charity.org/charity/get-involved/events
This annual event raises money for Break Charity, which works across East Anglia making life better for young people on the edge of care, in care and leaving care.
There will be a display of the large decorated ducks from 12noon and they will then race down the River Wensum at 2pm, with a trophy up for grabs.
At 2.30pm, thousands of little yellow ducks will race, with fantastic prices up for grabs.
There will also be live music, food and drink, face painting and games.

6. Hunstanton Soapbox Derby
Where: The Green, Hunstanton, PE36 6BL
When: September 22, 11am-5pm
Price: Entries are now closed, free for spectators
Hunstanton’s very own Wacky Races returns this September with themed go-karts zooming through the seaside town.
The course starts by the High Street on Greevegate and it then goes down past The Green and finishes in Beach Terrace Road by the Bandstand.
In 2023, there were 40 teams and more than 5,000 spectators.
7. NOR-CON - The Norfolk Film, TV and Comic Con
Where: Norfolk Showground, Dereham Road, New Costessey, NR5 0TT
When: September 28: 10.30am-5pm, September 29: 10.30am-4pm (early admission tickets available with 9.30am entry)
Price: Standard day tickets - Adults (14+): £15-£16, children (6-13): £9-£10, early entry, family and weekend tickets also available, booking in advance essential at nor-con.co.uk, additional charge for autographs, selfies and photoshoots with celebrity guests (prices online)
NOR-CON will feature exhibits, celebrity appearances, stage talks and demonstrations, cosplay competitions, comic book artists and traders selling memorabilia and merchandise.
The famous guests are Colin Baker (the sixth Doctor Who), Annette Badland (Doctor Who, Ted Lasso, EastEnders) and Red Dwarf stars Robert Llewellyn (Saturday only), Chris Barrie and Danny John-Jules.
They will be joined by Joseph Marcell (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) and Romy J. Sharf (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers).
