Stage is set for Norfolk Senior Cup semi-finals

The Yachtsmen have reached the county showpiece at Carrow Road for the past two seasons, only to fall at the final hurdle on both occasions.

Stewart Larter – who plotted the second of those demises against Wroxham when in charge of Gorleston last year – will be hoping to retain the trophy, whilst many of the current crop of players also enjoyed success for the Greens last year.

The Planters – who ply their trade one level below Wroxham – will pose a stern test for Larter and his men, with former Yachtsmen boss Damien Hilton's troops sitting top of the tree in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Premier Division.

The tie pits two of the deadliest strikers in local football against each other, with Christy Finch notching 30 times so far for the Yachtsmen, whilst Matt Blake has hit the net a staggering 36 times in 37 appearances for United in what has been a red hot season for the frontman.

Wroxham have had a fairly smooth run to the last-four stage so far, with 5-0 and 4-1 victories over Swaffham Town and Scole United respectively getting them to this point.

Norwich United have been equally efficient in their passage through the competition, with a 1-0 win over Fakenham Town in the fourth round followed up with a resounding 4-0 victory over holders Gorleston in the quarter-finals.

The Yachtsmen will be hoping skipper Andy Howell will be able to get some minutes under his belt as he continues his return from a hamstring injury, with Larter having an otherwise full strength squad to choose from.

In the other semi-final Dereham entertain Thurlow Nunn Premier Division strugglers Diss Town at Aldiss Park.

The Magpies will be hoping to put their recent troubles in the league behind them after seeing their play-off hopes suffer a dent with consecutive defeats against Barkingside and Thamesmead.

Struggling Diss will be looking to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat against Hadleigh at the weekend.
